David Ponce of OhGizmo says:
I’d love to have a nuclear-powered car. So much time, effort and energy goes into producing bigger and better atomic bombs or nuclear powerplants… it seems to me that if we found a safe way to harness nuclear power and use it in personal transportation, our reliance on foreign oil would immediately disappear. Imagine getting a car that needs no refueling or no recharging. Ever.

Only one big problem with that and thats far too many people make money off of the oil/gas/whatever part of cars no governmental agency would ever allow it.

just imagine a car crash, I imagine you are thinking about nuclear energy in a safe mode, ok will be just a little amount of nuclar energy, just the necesary, but… it’s still radioactive, I think it would be better let atomic energy to the big plants—->electricity—->electric cars

I hear what you’re saying, but why couldn’t we make a device that doesn’t spill its contents in a car crash? Like the blackboxes from planes… They make those so that they can withstand, well, plane crashes. So it would be cool if they could invent this nearly indestructible modular (nuclear-powered) energy source (like a never ending battery) that doesn’t crack like an egg in case of a crash. I know it’s probably unfeasible, which is one of the reasons we don’t have that technology yet. But I’m just saying this could be pretty neat.

DUDE! There is no way that cars will be nuclear powered. I can see where your going with it, but I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Maybe we could power the Hybrids with 80% Nuclear Energy (as in, electricity from a nuclear plant) and 20% Ethinol (my theory is that Ethinol could power the Ethinol making machines instead of gasoline). Anyway, how would you like a lead box in your car? To David: The black box wasn’t made to protect nuclear reactions.
Have you ever seen a diagram of a nuclear reactor? The engine would get way too hot, and your car would melt or something and then you’d explode. If cars ran on nuclear energy, it would make cars much more expensive. Corn is the way to go. Like I said, Ethinol Electricity Hybrid. We could have Korn do a concert for the launching of my idea. Modify Got the Life. Got the Corn.

AND I see where your going with the foreign oil thing, but we have enough oil right here in America. For some stupid reason, MR. El Presidante from Mexico won’t dig up oil in Mexico. We only drill up like 10% of the oil we use. I say that we dig up our own, before making a big crisis about running out of oil. Gas would drop like, an entire dollar atleast if we dug our own oil. Peace out.

Yes, and we could use the radioactive material from the hundreds of thousands of nuclear weapons we have to power all of them.
