i have a Toshiba m35 notebook. whenever i use it it sometimes just blacks out and the only way to get back on is to restart it. sometimes it blacks out in 5 minutes other times about hours. I didnt think that it is the screen because the screen works for a while. Also when it blacks out the lights are still on and so is the whirring sound. I called toshiba but i am no longer under warranty. help!

Well, if it never did it before and is doing it now, 2 things, 1) Old age, trying reinstalling OS, 2) You have a prankster
2) start -> control pannel-> power settings, have a look round here.
Set all things to never. Then give it a go and apply the change.
